Hi Nice To Meet Everyone

My name is Trista Ding and I’m so happy to be here and meet everyone. As you can see I enjoyed many sunny days and many ice-cream cones in the past two months, now it’s time to back to the work/study mode. 🙂

I’m an Early Literacy Teacher working in Surrey, and this is my fourth year teaching. My job requires me to work with classroom teachers to provide targeted literacy instructions for vulnerable young learners in Kindergarten and Grade 1. My instructions heavily focus on phonological awareness, oral language development, and reading skills. When the pandemic hit and everything went online, it struck me to reflect on my teaching approach, pushing me to consider how mobile learning is important for our students when all else fails. While I was looking for different options for further study, the MET program caught my eye and here I am.

What I want to explore in this course is the possibilities of efficient mobile learning for early primary students. Kids spend a lot of time on devices for entertainment, and it makes me think about how we, as educators, can guide them with appropriate instructions and resources to turn some of that time into learning opportunities. There’s so much potential for peer interaction and family education as well. I’m eager to explore as the course progress, and I’m looking forward to learning from everyone’s insights.

    Hi Trista!

It’s so nice to meet you! I’m so glad you had an enjoyable summer. I’m excited to have another primary level teacher to take this course with. I can absolutely relate to you reflecting on your teaching approach when learning went online during the pandemic. It was so much tougher than I thought it would be, especially for our younger students, but I definitely learned a lot!

    Take care,

    KJ
