For this assignment I’ve chosen to highlight a technology that I have personally used a good amount over the last few years to make presentations and formative assessments more interactive and enriched with my students.
Mentimeter is basically a PowerPoint derivative but contains slide tools that allow you to gather real time information and input from your audience. There is a wide variety of different slide tools; multiple choice slides, rankings, Q&A capabilities, “Pin on Image” where you can get students to analyze images, and so on.
I mention it in the presentation, but my project here does not show the full capabilities of Mentimeter. Usually, you get the most out of it in live presentation settings, where the audience is able to see how their responses compare to the rest of the audience in real time. However, I think it still gets the point across, and you’re able to see the results at the end of the slideshow. I highly recommend playing around with it and trialing some of the tools yourself to see the full possibilities of the platform.
In the presentation, I mention some of the strengths of the platform – why it’s better than more traditional platforms – and also some considerations to take into account before employing it in your classroom. I also leave space for audience members to brainstorm use cases and apprehensions.
