Facilitation

Facilitation, in various forms, comprises a large part of our work at CTLT. We work with individuals and units across campus to design and facilitate many types of interactions to help them meet their needs and achieve their goals.

The purposes of these interactions have ranged from improving collaboration and teamwork to the development of communication frameworks and strategic plans to conducting needs assessments, among others. The interactions may be one time only meetings, or a series of events that take place over several weeks or months.

Some examples include: departmental and faculty retreats, implementation sessions, action planning, and the identification of models for future development of new or existing units.

Facilitation Services

Facilitative Teaching

As facilitative teachers, members of the FPD team regularly organize and facilitate professional development events for the teaching and learning community, both within and outside of UBC. We offer workshops on such topics as peer review of teaching, presentation skills, providing constructive feedback in difficult situations, and facilitation and process design skills, among others. As facilitators, we support diverse communities of practice including course design, portfolios, and teaching and learning for the heart and mind.

Examples of Facilitative Teaching:

Workshops | Communities of Practice | Small Group Instructional Feedback (SGIF)/Peer Coaching

Process Consulting
(including Design and Facilitation)

The FPD team at CTLT provides process consulting services intended to help “make a demonstrable difference to problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational effectiveness” related to teaching and learning. We work with leaders and members of UBC units who are looking for some assistance in identifying the results they and their group(s) need to accomplish, and/or the methods they might use to achieve those results.
