Online Spaces

CTLT develops online spaces where the communities and stakeholders we support can gather together to share and/or find resources relevant to their teaching and learning context. The responsibilities for developing and maintaining these spaces are shared with other staff within CTLT. FPD’s particular role is to design these spaces as well as develop processes that enable the easy documentation and sharing of resources, experiences and programs.

Next Steps

CTLT Website

Early last year there was a strong push to redesign the CTLT Website. Unfortunately, this initiative has slowed as a result of resource challenges and lack of strategic direction. Continued interest from the various TLPD teams has led to a focused design effort being made on specific sections, namely Faculty Programs, Aboriginal Initiatives and, the PD Services areas. The strategies employed by Luisa Canuto, Cindy Underhill and Zack Lee for the Faculty Programs work were also used by Zack Lee for the redesign of the Aboriginal Initiatives and PD Services. This ensured a consistency of design across all three sections.

ISW/PSW Facilitators’ Spaces

The ISW Facilitator Community site received approval for the domain name http://isw.ubc.ca. It has been public for more than a year, although usage has been very low. A few facilitators have been uploading their resources and lesson plans but this has not reached a point where it is part of their workflow. We have had conversations with Jason McAllister, the new Grad Student Facilitator Team Coordinator, on how to best use the online space. Going forward, there will need to be a greater push to promote and advocate the use of the site within the ISW community.

Zack Lee and Jason McAllister have also started working on the PSW Facilitators’ space with very similar features to the ISW site. Facilitators can create and share their lesson plans as well as debrief forms, agendas and resources. Jason has introduced the PSW space during a facilitator PD session.

Work will continue on both sites and both will inform each other’s future design as more facilitators become aware of both sites.

eLearning @ UBC

eLearning @ UBC underwent a major reorganization last year due to the integration of Connect into the teaching and learning with technology ecosystem. This integration provided an opportunity to look at the current resources and organization of the site. Going forward, Zack Lee has taken on the responsibility of managing the site which includes:

  • Planning for Connect-related resources
  • Developing toolkits for new university-supported tools
  • Updating current toolkits during the summer months

Over the next few months, information on WebCT Vista will phased out as the migration process continues.
