Out of the closet and onto the street

Young, gay and homeless in Vancouver

without comments

Gay, lesbian and bisexual youth made up a quarter of British Columbia’s young homeless population in 2006.

Meet four people whose lives show the stories behind the statistics:

  • Looking for acceptance, Matt and Jeremy both left home as teenagers and joined the party scene in downtown Vancouver.
  • David ran away from home at fifteen on a journey to discover himself as a Two-Spirited person. After returning months later, his family kicked him out and refused to speak to him.
  • Jin* moved to Vancouver from Toronto and found himself struggling to keep a roof over his head. Trading sex for shelter was a temporary solution.
