Sydney’s work is focused on the use of tissue-derived colon organoid models to study IBD. She completed her BSc Hons. in Microbiology at UBC Okanagan in 2021, after which she spent a year working jointly with the Bergstrom Lab and Gibson Lab to establish a colon organoid platform at UBCO. Since returning to the Gibson Lab in late 2023, she has resumed work on the application of colon organoids to examine interactions between the epithelium and probiotic bacteria for treatment of IBD.
