The increasing suicides rates of workers

Foxconn, known as Hon Hai Precision Industry Co in Taiwan, is the world’s largest maker of computer components and assembles products for Apple, including the iPhone, Sony, HP and Nokia. The company is in the spotlight after suicides and labor unrest at its massive Chinese plants.

The Foxconn suicides occurred between January and November 2010 when eighteen Foxconn employees attempted suicide with fourteen deaths. The suicides drew media attention, and employment practices at Foxconn, a large contract manufacture, were investigated by several of its customers including Apple and HP.  Although the number of workplace suicides at the company was large in absolute terms, the rate is still low when compared to the rest of China.

According to the stakeholder theory, the successful business should crate value to customers, employees, suppliers, communities and shareholders. As we can see from the facts above, most the employees ,now in China, work in poor condition and great pressure . And the rate of suicide is just the reflection of this facts.

The cause of this situation is that, most of the Corporation executive neglect which is called the business ethic. Corporation executive should realize that business is not just about making profits, it is their responsibility to we obey laws and rules and respect the basic rights of the employees simultaneously.
