Once a Chevron gas station and now a derelict community garden, The Alma Restoration Garden was created in response to urban failures illuminated by Covid-19 and the sociodemographic needs of the Alma and W Broadway community.

Each year that passes, this 120+ year old community struggles even more to engage its residents and foster a sense of community. The issue of loneliness is ever-present in more rural communities like this one and is an increasingly prevalent health concern in 2021.

Inhale Garden – Alex Williams
Currently safe consumption sites for illicit drug use, such as Insite, focus primarily on the reduction of harm associated with injection. While this has had a very positive impact, these services tend to lack facilities for the inhalation of illicit drugs.
Mindful Moment – Chloe Naese
Mindful Moment is a restorative garden on Montana State University’s
campus that would accommodate anxiety sufferers. One effective management strategy for anxiety is mindfulness, which is a neutral state of mind achieved by focusing on the present for several minutes.

Emerald Garden – Will Xiao
The intention is to create a healing garden for the long-term residents and to promote social connection, by providing people areas to enjoy the bird song and to walk their pets. In addition, by creating scenes the elders are familiar with.
Located near a cancer treatment center on the grounds of a hospital, the Jubilee Healing Garden promotes healing for the families and loved ones of cancer patients.
Oyster Garden – Claire Hicks
Located in the Ucluelet harbour, the Oyster Garden creates a safe and nurturing environment that aims to support the wellbeing of infants and their families, both pre and post-natal.
