Project Statement
As Vancouver’s neighborhood with the most households with children (53%) but with worsening childhood outcomes for physical health, social
competence, and emotional maturity, I asked how can a garden restore and
activate the minds and bodies of families who live in the Southlands
neighbourhood.
What resulted is a harmonious collection of spaces, shaped by hexagons
carved into a sad forlorn parking lot, with plants and walls strategically
placed to create feelings of mystery, encloser, and calm from a busy
street.
Families can climb, draw, and build together with a public washroom nearby. Friends can meet up for a bite to eat or coffee. Students and staff bound for UBC can wait at a covered bus stop. Welcome to The Hive!
