Project Statement

Physical touch from family members and caregivers is often an important part of the therapeutic regime for people living with dementia. The Covid-19 pandemic has devastated long-term care homes across Canada and has left many residents isolated from this essential contact. The Rideaucrest Home Garden is a therapeutic touch garden that aims to alleviate some of this loneliness in a long-term care facility in Kingston, Ontario. The garden is defined by a meandering path that takes the user through spaces resembling rooms of a home, each with a unique planting and materiality design that provides a restorative tactile experience.
