I had the privilege of organizing a school-wide assembly on the first week of our practicum with my fellow TCs at our school. It was great! I would do it again. I quickly learned the logistics behind the responsibilities of coordinating multiple people for an event. I enjoyed taking part and initiative in the planning process of something with a big audience.
I taught a lot of art during my practicum. I have not the slightest clue about teaching art. Ask me prior to my time at the school about art and I would just laugh and walk away. By collaborating with my school advisor and researching for hours on my own, I came up with and carried out several art projects that I would have never believed I could have taught.
Spring straw-blown art.
Orgami bulletin board.
I attended several professional development workshops with my fellow TCs in our cohort. It was great! One was specifically held for beginning teachers and teacher candidates. I took away lots of knowledge and resources from there and even reconnected with an old acquaintance who had become a teacher. We shared some of our experiences and I got to see the path he took to become a professional.
I had a SmartBoard in my classroom, but I did not have the program. I wish to learn how to use a SmartBoard to its full potential one day. I had many textbooks in my classroom, but I did not use many. I wish to learn how to effectively use textbooks to its full potential one day. I had many ideas in my mind, but I did not have the time or resources to implement them. I wish to be able to try everything one day. I did not have the chance to team-teach, but I wish to have a try at it one day. That’s how I perceive myself becoming engaged in career-long learning.
