Educators value and care for all students and act in their best interests.

Parents send their beloved children to schools every day. In the beginning, schools are unfamiliar buildings with many strangers who populate them. Some of these strangers are teachers. As time passes, schools become a safe and friendly place to look forward to arriving at every day.

The treasure of a parent’s life is their children. Knowing that parents are sending their most valuable part of their lives to teachers, strangers with some education degree, is a huge deal to me. Teachers are in a privileged position of power and trust. We are responsible for every student’s well-being and development. We have to treat every student with respect and dignity. We must value and care for the treasures of our world.

I applied to be in the education program because I love children. I enjoy getting to know each student personally by talking to them as individuals in the little pockets of time where I am not teaching the class as a whole. Every Monday, my class shared their adventures outside of school during “Weekend Highlights.” I had a message box for students to write to me about anything if they wished to. Being relatively close to their age and being brought up in a similar generation, I was able to connect with students on their hobbies outside of school, such as video games and comic books.

What does this show? It shows that like many others, I truly value and care for all students – unconsciously. When something becomes gratifying and you have become habituated to it, there is no other need for evidence to prove it. It just becomes a part of you.
