Adult child leaves nest- Day 1

There’s no turning back- I’m on a plane.  Thank you to my friends who came to see me off at the airport. I miss you all so much already.

I’m currently on my way to Toronto, where I have a short layover before flying to Copenhagen. When I land, a CBS buddy will be waiting for me at the airport to take me to my home for the next four months! This buddy system is all arranged by CBS and pretty thoughtful might I add. I’ve  always wanted to be greeted at the airport with a sign, so I was pretty thrilled when I landed and saw my buddy holding this:

We made our way to the metro (which I keep accidently referring to as the Skytrain) and also rode a bus. The first thing I noticed was the amount of bikers. There are really not  many cars -no wonder everyone here has such nice legs. Back home, I have a constant fear of being slammed in the shin by a UBC biker but I’ll probably be cured by the time I return.

We arrived to the house and I rang the doorbell. A man in just his underwear opened the door, looking very confused to see me. As I squinted, slightly horrified, trying to remember if this was the face of my landlord, my buddy started edging me back down the stairs. Turns out, I had rung the wrong doorbell and all was well again as my landlord and his wife came out of a different door to greet me.

My Danish family is so incredibly kind and welcoming. Hroar, my landlord, personally took me around the neighbourhood and showed me the closest routes to CBS.  Afterward, his daughter Frigga, walked me to the CBS Crash Course Week activity location. CBS offers a variety of social packages, and because I have severe FOMO, bought them all. It’s sort of tricky though, because every night is at a different location, with only vague information provided that requires hopping on a bus or train.

The first night was a Danish quiz night. My team ( Team 12 !) won the trivia game and we were rewarded with Danish junk food and beer. Not bad for a first day! Now it’s time to give in to jet lag, goodnight!
