Chipotle: Tugging at Your Heartstrings

Another Opinion on the Topic…: http://www.businessinsider.com/the-problem-with-chipotles-scarecrow-ad-2013-9

The Scarecrow (VIDEO LINK)

This new and unique approach to advertising exhibits a contemporary and original theme in its message. Instead of trying to sell the product directly to the consumer, the company (Chipotle), announced a popular new mobile game, titled The Scarecrow, for all Apple products. Upon the game’s release, educating and engaging the public about food issues (For example, anti-industrial food processes and depicting the evils of factory farming, etc.) has been its number one priority.

Although the loveable video has over six million views on YouTube, the adorable/animated commercial may not help/assist the business of the company in the short-run. Yes, the positive popularity of this video has helped boost Chipotle’s credibility, an underlying question looms.

“Does this video make you want to curl up in a vegan coma and never eat a steak burrito or a chicken taco at Chipotle? Or does this video help humanize a giant corporation.”

CONCLUSION:

Personally, I believe that the video will help improve business throughout Chipotle restaurants all across North America because of its increased positive brand imaging as a leading fast food eatery!

“Rich People Just Care Less”

The Article: http://opinionator.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/10/05/rich-people-just-care-less/?src=me&_r=0

As the gap in social discrepancy increases, the interactions between those with more social power and those with less financial stability has become a hot topic for discussion.

“A growing body of recent research shows that people with the most social power pay scant attention to those with little such power… The more powerful person shows fewer signals of paying attention like nodding or laughing. Higher-status people are also more likely to express disregard, through facial expressions, and are more likely to take over the conversation and interrupt or look past the other speaker.”

Although the gap between the rich and the rest of the nation’s population has always been an important social issue, the concern has become a paramount subject as of late. As income inequality is at its highest level in a century, the rising gap between the rich and the poor has drawn interest from psychology researchers from across the country.

In order for the world to move forward as one cohesive unit, each individual nation must acknowledge the micro-politics of interpersonal relationships in regards to social power, but strive to close the gap between the rich and the poor. An interesting spin to the whole to the whole article… “How did the rich get rich in the first place? On the backs of the poor through the generosity of many invisible hands and hearts.”

High Street Fashion facing a lash from Bangladesh

The Washington Post starts the article with a brewing question, “Is the fashion industry at a social crossroads?”

As New York’s much-publicized fashion week begins tomorrow, the event has been the target to many specific attacks, questioning the unsafe production practices and the rampant use of children in the manufacturing of consumer products. As a result, these few examples bring forth an important question of social responsibility and ethics.

Although the collapse of the Dhaka factory in Bangladesh sparked heated debate amongst the top fast fashion retailers that used this facility and its workers as an outlet for cheap labor-intensive employment, this has not gained enough recognition to change the fashion industry by storm.

In the UK’s edition of the Huffington Post, “A study last year revealed that poor people are more likely to act ethically than the wealthy… Chronic unemployment and rising living costs, people on a budget are evidently more likely to ignore their conscience and buy value products”.

This excerpt illustrates society’s “it’s all about me” mentality, and the growing worry for this generation, and the next generation’s lack of moral compass.
