The UBC Library is hoping that most users will be using VPN as their primary method for accessing Library resources from off-campus (as an alternative to using the proxy server).
VPN is a service provided by ITServices.
Advantages
• once a network connection is established, the user is essentially “on campus”
• remote URLs are unchanged, allowing links to be specified the same on-campus as off-campus
• CWL (Campus-Wide Login) used for authentication (i.e. no barcode/PINs)
Information from VPN (Virtual Private Network)
The UBC Wireless Network offers free high performance VPN (Virtual Private Network) access to protect your communications. VPN servers employ encryption and other security measures to ensure that any data sent on the wireless network will not be intercepted.
You can connect to the VPN servers via the wireless network by using a VPN client. The VPN client encrypts any traffic between your computer and UBC’s VPN servers to safeguard your communication to UBC.
