(Verb) ことができます [Can do (verb)]

Picture2Picture1

When I taught this unit to my Beginner Japanese 11 classes, they struggled with remembering to use the modifier “こと” if they were using a verb instead of a noun. Integrating it with the hobby vocabulary they were learning was a way to address this.

Feedback for Lily:

  • Intro by using hobbies- ask students about theirs (good)
  • Confused meanings of like and able to (understandable given the subject description/lack of time)
  • Has the structure down (ie placement of nominalized verbs and verbs)
  • Had students practice using English hobbies (good considering time constraint – any many are similar anyway)
