Part 1 – What Do You Know?

Task 1: Choosing Roles

Once you have been placed in your groups, please fill out the following information in the Group Density Dilemma Activity Sheet:

  1. Group Leader: __________________________
  2. Recorder: ______________________________
  3. Letter Writer: ____________________________
  4. Presenter: ______________________________

Task 2:  What do you know?

In your groups, pair up with one of your other group members.  This will be your partner for this activity.  Label yourselves “Partner A” and “Partner B”.  When asked a question (I will state Partner A or Partner B), you will be given 30 seconds to think of your answer and 30 seconds to tell your partner what you think.

After you are done thinking and sharing your ideas, you will have 3 minutes to discuss your answers as a whole group. Have the recorder write down the general consensus of each answer on the Group Density Dilemma Activity Sheet.

Questions:

  1. What is mass and what are its units?
  2. What is volume and what are its units?
  3. How do you measure volume indirectly?
  4. What is density?  What is the formula for density?

Task 3: What do you want to know?

On your Group Density Dilemma Activity Sheet, write down what your group would like to know about the topic we are working on today.
