#052: Wordprompt time!

March 4th, 2009 by Mary Leong

Currently listening to: “Par chez nous” – Les Cowboys Fringants

I’m undergoing a terrible bout of writer’s block. Nothing seems to make sense, which means that my Arts One essay = epic fail at the moment.

In an effort to try to write, I’d love it if you guys tossed random words at me (the more bizarre the better, e.g. “chortle” is a fab word, “kettle” is wonderful, so is “idiosyncracy”, but “sustainability”, not quite so right now).

I’ll try to muddle and etch out some entries, relevant or otherwise. It’s entirely possible that I might take your wordprompts and run off with them, leaving behind only a trail of yarn and crayon stains.

Love you all.
Peace,
M.

    1. perjinkities (n) learnt from the game Balderdash, meaning nice things

    2. comport (v) an English word learnt from an ESL student, meaning to act/behave/conduct oneself

    3. perron (n) rhyming with heron, and barren, this is “an exterior set of steps and a platform at the main entrance to a large building such as a church or mansion”

    4. pettifog (v) archaic, apparently, and meaning (1) quibble about petty points, (2) practise legal deception or trickery.

    5. quibble

    6. winsome

Shall stop before this gets too long!

“…run off with them, leaving behind only a trail of yarn and crayon stains.” love it. & love reading your blog :)

    morose, rampant, rampage, deluge, stymied
–perhaps not so random or bizarre, but what came to mind. ..though maybe it’s reflecting my feeling a bit overwhelmed by all my readings and end-of-term essays.

hey Mary, i found a little trail from this blog to your writing blog, and read some of your writing there. hopefully you don’t mind.

your writing is quite amazing!.. those word images blew me away.. and the “lethal potential” piece was chilling..
~wish i could write poetry as well as you do :)

i think you should consider submitting something to the Terry Writing Challenge (deadline April 4th). they accept already written/published writing as well. more info here:

best wishes with your essay(s) and writing!
