#036: Lomography film update

Currently listening to: “Edge of Seventeen” – Stevie Nicks

So I managed to find some Kodak Elitechrome film at London Drugs – two rolls for $26.
I shall have to be a lot more prudent with my film now, seeing how they are a lot less flexible with their film pricing than my local camera store.

Nevertheless, I am excited to go out shooting soon!

#035: Requesting some help!

Currently listening to: “Hey Jack Kerouac” – 10 000 Maniacs

Ottawa, August ’08
Fuji Sensia, ISO 100, cross-processed

I’m getting to the very very last of my expired Fuji Sensia film (expired 2006), and I’ve had no luck in finding a greater variety of slide films anywhere. I love the cross-processed Sensia look, but sometimes all the oversaturated red gets to me, and I’d love to get my hands on some different films – just to experiment with!

Short of getting them online (five rolls for 30 euro), I can’t seem to locate them anywhere. Thus, I’m on the search for any of the following types of film (expired is perfectly fine by me):

Fuji Provia-100
Fuji Velvia-100
Kodak Elitechrome EB
Kodak Elitechrome EBX
Kodak Elitechrome ED

If you know where I could get these affordably or easily, PLEASE let me know! Also, if you have any 35mm slide film for sale, drop me a note here! A fellow photographer who shoots and cross-processes slide? I’d love to hear from you too!

Thanks so much in advance, and best holiday wishes all around!

#034: Too adorable.

Currently listening to: “Lying in the Dark” – Pushing Daisies OST

Since the end of semester, between my two jobs, I’ve been practically working full-time. At Indigo, getting trained to do cashier work has provided me with ample opportunities for witnessing chortle-worthy events, resulted in me dealing with potentially aggravating customers, and despite all the madness and long line-ups (oh, Christmas shopping…) it is all quite entertaining. But when it comes down to it, the adorable small child with some sort of bumbling whimsical charm always manages to brighten up my day.

Presenting the latest in such escapades. Yesterday, a little boy of about six came toddling up to the cash desk, holding two quarters in his hands.

Kid: I have TWO quarters.
Me: Mmmmmmhmmm.
Kid: (holding up stocking stuffers) How much is this?
Me: (after scanning aforementioned item) $4.99
Kid: Oh…That’s too much.
(Kid walks away, and comes back with box of toys.)
Kid: This is 25 cents!
Me: No it’s not. It’s $12.95.
Kid: No, it says here it’s 25 cents!
Me: No, it says that there are 25 pieces in it!
Kid: Oh. (pause) So how much is it?
Me: $12.95.
Kid: So…how many quarters is that?

AWWWW.

#033: And…madness…now!

Currently listening to: “Hey Jude” – The Beatles

Cue exclamation marks, potential capslocking of glee, and other such.

It snowed! I got off work, and stepped out of Indigo, and watched little swirls of snowflakes drift and dance and tumble! It was the loveliest thing. There’s the prettiest, lightest sprinkling of snow on the ground- winter is well and truly underway!

Finals are over! In fact, in a startling show of epic efficiency, my French grades are up already- quite marvellous, considering my exam was yesterday. Rundown of exams: Psych murdered me, then drew and quartered my corpse, and my revived self slayed the French exam the way St. George must have metaphorically slayed the metaphorical dragon. All’s done, all’s good, life goes on (la-la how the life goes on).

In some epic chuckle-worthy news, a cake request for 3-year-old Hitler namesake was denied. The father of said child is reported to have “sounded surprised by all the controversy the dispute had generated”.

Mmm, fruit smoothies, ontd_political, and stacks of new books to read- this is the post-exam life!

Christmas next week!

More to come soon.

#031/032: Of procrastination, finals, and snowfall

Currently listening to: “Love Story” – Taylor Swift

I HAVE NOTICED A GRIEVOUS ERROR IN THE NUMBERING OF MY POSTS.
THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE ENTRY NUMBER THIRTY-TWO (32).

Mary’s back in the blogosphere! What have I been doing for the past nine days or so? Well, the answer is quite simple- in a word (or two), epic procrastination of the best sort. I’ve read countless random books (including Barack Obama’s The Audacity of Hope and Lauren Willig’s Napoleonic War romance-intrigue-historicalwhatsits series), grocery-shopped, looped the Hair Original Broadway Cast Recording more times than I can recall, and followed the coalition government news with great passion, but aside from all that….
not that much has been achieved vis-a-vis finals.

It could be worse, of course: out of nine chapters of Psych, I’ve read and annotated seven-and-a-half chapters; one-and-a-half more to go. And of course, I ought to commence some much-needed French prep. That might be nice.

So I took three minutes out of this blogging and went to the UBC LEAP website, looking for past French 122 exams. What, this is nothing at all like what we’re doing? I’m so utterly confused. It is from 2003, which might mean that stuff’s changing. I shall…get around to studying, then worry about it. Oh, typical Mary.

Regarding snow-
I am very, very put out that it is not snowing where I am.

That is all.
