#049: Even more adventures in photography!

Currently listening to: “If You Seek Amy” – Britney Spears

Second roll of Elitechrome 200.
I’m intrigued by the bluish effects- I did the exact same process to my first roll of Elitechrome, which turned out a lot greener. Cross processing does yield such incredibly unpredictable results, you just gotta love that stuff.

Granville Island

and now, some UBC

French midterm at 10 a.m. tomorrow, Psych midterm at 11 a.m. tomorrow.
Hooray.

#042: More adventures in photography

Currently listening to: “Oxford Comma” – Vampire Weekend

So, I’ve finally got the first roll of Kodak Elitechrome 200 cross-processed and developed, and here are the results. (Yes, I managed to get all my prints back from Shoppers’. About time, too.)

(Shot with Canon Prima AF-8)

The greenish cast is definitely a sharp (and surprisingly pleasant) contrast to the reddish-purplish cast that cross-processing Fuji Sensia 100 gives:

(taken with fisheye lens)

As Eloise would say,
“Oooooooo I simply love photography.”

#040: Rant…and…go.

Currently listening to: “Heimdalsgate Like A Promethean Curse” – of Montreal

/commence rant

I had a rather dreadful experience with the Shoppers’ Drug Mart by Lonsdale Quay in Nvan. (Though I’ve learnt not to expect too much- even ‘pro’ photo places can be finicky at times, and if not, overly pricey.) I had decided to get my slide film cheaply cross-processed there instead of getting it done at Wal-Mart (which is equally unreliable, but cost-effective – that’s a story for another day). Happily entrusting my sacred roll of Elitechrome 200 into the hands of the cashier, I pranced off- another thing accomplished off the to-do list!

Of course, as with most things camera-related, it went downhill from there. Murphy’s law at its best. It was a little like the day I finished shooting all my film…and then the sun came out. But I digress.

I returned the next day to discover that the roll of film was perfectly x-pro’ed, BUT the package I received and paid for was missing the index card, thirteen photo prints, and a digital copy of the photos. The photo lab assistant was off on lunch; upon calling later on, he was absolutely unable to tell me over the phone why they were missing, and insisted that I had to return in order for him to tell me why. I’m sorry, but a simple explanation over the telephone will suffice, even a brief statement on when I will be able to pick them up will placate me; I am not returning to get an explanation, go home, wait till they’re done being printed (if they ever are), and then go back and get them again. Can you count the total number of bus rides there? More than one hand’s worth of fingers, that’s for sure.

Meanwhile, as people try to coerce me into digital photography, I staunchly wave my analog in their faces.

I’m tired. Bed now, then rundown of the Student Leadership Conference tomorow.

#036: Lomography film update

Currently listening to: “Edge of Seventeen” – Stevie Nicks

So I managed to find some Kodak Elitechrome film at London Drugs – two rolls for $26.
I shall have to be a lot more prudent with my film now, seeing how they are a lot less flexible with their film pricing than my local camera store.

Nevertheless, I am excited to go out shooting soon!

#035: Requesting some help!

Ottawa, August ’08
Fuji Sensia, ISO 100, cross-processed

I’m getting to the very very last of my expired Fuji Sensia film (expired 2006), and I’ve had no luck in finding a greater variety of slide films anywhere. I love the cross-processed Sensia look, but sometimes all the oversaturated red gets to me, and I’d love to get my hands on some different films – just to experiment with!

Short of getting them online (five rolls for 30 euro), I can’t seem to locate them anywhere. Thus, I’m on the search for any of the following types of film (expired is perfectly fine by me):

Fuji Provia-100
Fuji Velvia-100
Kodak Elitechrome EB
Kodak Elitechrome EBX
Kodak Elitechrome ED

If you know where I could get these affordably or easily, PLEASE let me know! Also, if you have any 35mm slide film for sale, drop me a note here! A fellow photographer who shoots and cross-processes slide? I’d love to hear from you too!

Thanks so much in advance, and best holiday wishes all around!
