Abstract
This project is to design a battery energy storage system (BESS) for the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS). The battery storage system is to be installed for two of the RDOS buildings with four main goals: 1) Provide backup power to the critical load in the office building and the Emergency Operating Center (EOC). 2)Manage peak demand to flatten the load spike. 3)Increase grid resiliency. 4)Offer small portable power for public access. This project is focused on the feasibility study from a system-level approach of the battery storage system application in the buildings and the management of the operation strategy in corporations with utility interfaces, plug-in electric vehicles, and other power usage interactions. By integrating different BESS options, the hybrid system is expected to achieve power resiliency and cost-effectiveness in building operations.
