Project Proposal Guidelines

The Masters of Engineering Leadership Clean Energy Engineering Capstone Conference provides an opportunity for graduate students to work on real-world projects that have the potential to make a significant impact in the field of clean energy engineering.

Each year, we invite project proposals from our community partners. On April 30th, we will share the initial invitation to submit proposals with our interested partners and community. The first round of proposals will be shared with students on June 9th. June 30th is the final deadline for partners to send submissions.

We will invite all of the project proposal partners to meet with our graduate students during the week of July 3rd (date, time and location to be confirmed) to help find successful matches for the project. This collaborative approach helps to ensure that the projects are meaningful, impactful, and relevant to the needs of our community partners.

Starting on September 5th, our students will work closely with project partners to develop a scope of work and identify deliverables for the capstone project. This collaborative approach helps to ensure that the projects are meaningful, impactful, and relevant to the needs of our community partners.

In mid-December, the students will participate in a conference-style presentation to showcase their work. Partners will be invited to attend and see first-hand the results of their collaboration with our students.

If you are interested in submitting a project proposal or learning more about the project proposal process, please visit our project proposal page for more information. We look forward to working with you to advance the field of clean energy engineering.

Guidelines for project submissions:

  1. Projects should be related to sustainable energy systems, including technology, business, and/or policy perspectives.
  2. Project ideas should be submitted in the form of a short paragraph that provides a general idea of the project.
  3. Please include a descriptive and concise project title.
  4. Project mentors should be willing to work with or guide an MEL in CEEN student and should provide support in the form of data, information, and/or access to professional experts.
  5. It is encouraged for project mentors to attend the student’s presentation at the end of the project.
  6. While honorariums for students are always welcome, they are not necessary. In cases where funding is provided to a student, the funding provider is referred to as a Project Sponsor (vs. a Project Mentor).
  7. Project proposals should be submitted to Dr. Vladan Prodanovic, Director MEL in CEEN, at vladan.prodanovic@ubc.ca.
  8. The deadline for submitting project proposals is June 30th, 2023.
  9. New ideas for projects are welcome any time of the year; however, you are best advised to send in a proposal as soon as possible.
  10. Please include your first and last name, as well as your email address, with your project submission.
