I am an Associate Professor of Teaching at the University of British Columbia in the Department of English Language and Literatures and Director of First-Year and Interdisciplinary Programs (FYIP). My current research focuses on pedagogies of literature and academic communication and I have a research background in poetry, specifically contemporary poetry and its relation to crisis and memory. I have essays published in The Canadian Journal for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, College English, Discourse and Writing/Rédactologie, Contemporary Literature, Pedagogy, Tulsa Studies in Women’s Literature, Memory Studies and English Studies in Canada. With TLEF funding I built a teaching and learning initiative entitled, the PASS — The Precedents Archive for Scholarly Speaking–to help students prepare for oral academic settings. I received my Ph.D. in English Literature from UBC in 2011 and my M.A. in Creative Writing from Concordia University. My poetry collection Ragtime for Beginners was published in 2008 (Killick Press).
