Field Work

During my time working for Banff National Park in the summer seasons of 2017 and 2018, I had the incredible opportunity to participate in several of the Parks Canada Agency research projects listed below:

Bat Monitoring

Set up and take down of all bat monitoring equipment was conducted at several sites.

 Amphibian Monitoring

This presence/absence research study required perimeter sweeps of wetlands and ponds for any signs of amphibian/aquatic life. Instruments were used to record water, wind and temperature measurements.

Terrestrial/Alpine Bird Monitoring

Sound recording units were set up during sunrise in front and backcountry areas to record bird songs.

Pika Monitoring

This presence/absence research study required travel through talus slopes to detect Pika haypiles. GPS units were used to track haypiles to monitor in the future.

Remote Camera Occupancy

Remote cameras were stationed throughout the park and were routinely serviced for data capture. Remote camera data was then uploaded, sorted and classified for species, behaviour and movement.

Project Development Site Monitoring

Project developments in the park were routinely monitored for adverse environmental impacts, project timeliness and mitgatory compliance.
