LIBR 559K is a one-credit class held over 2 Saturdays, May 14 & May 28. As you may have guessed from the course title, we will be learning lots about open access – definitions, open access archives, open access journals, policies, initiatives & tools. As part of the class you will do a very brief (no more than 5 minutes) presentation; the sign-up wiki is here. The assignment involves developing a little something for the web to help advance open access, whether a subject guide to open access resources, tutorial or other learning object, or helping to launch a new list for the Open Access Directory! If desired, you could make a short video for your assignment, and enter the Sparky contest Open Up! Show why open access matters to you, (entry due May 26, 2011).
If sharing your work openly on the web is not for you, no worries, we will be briefly discussing privacy in the online environment and alternatives will be available.
