Several marketing methods were mentioned in the post I seen from the Small Business BC blog. In recent COMM101 class, we were able to have a meet with three alumni  who own their own start up business. So it is beneficial for me to understand how to successfully run a start up with the help of their experience and the content of that post.

Among those advertisement channels, the one named Word of Mouth is of most power. People are more likely to take their friends’ recommendations and comments into account when making decisions. If a product have gained a lot of good ratings, there is an intangible power which force customers to purchase it. Since Word of Mouth is powerful, small business could set up a referral program that reward those bring business. However, people’s words are not enough for a successful business to get off the ground. The marketer of that business should cooperated with other segments to make sure every single customer is satisfied with their services or products. Otherwise, the ordinary process of the whole referral program cannot be continued.

Once the referral program is set up, how can the customers be encouraged to bring business?

Creating a customer loyalty program or offering that rewards word of mouth may be of help. It is human nature for people to share when they get good value or service. If they are rewarded after bring business, they show more willingness to bring more.
