Quinn’s Culture Jamming Philosophy

sexMy culture jamming assignment was inspired by the original Burger King advertisement that uses that catch phrase “It’ll blow your mind” and an image of a girl holding her mouth open in a sexual act in the direction of their new burger feature. My culture jamming philosophy for my new interpretation of the Burger King ad reveals the words “I am a female that exists only for male sexual pleasure and dominance.” I made these words coming out of a speech bubble from the female’s mouth because this invokes the message that is the underlying issue in this sexist advertisement that illustrates male superiority. I wanted to bring to the surface how this is the actual message that is being depicted in this ad, not one that features the latest food item from Burger King. I also added the message “It’s a mans world” as a title to this advertisement. I believe this title accurately depicts how a female is being sublimely showcased as the inferior sex who is negated to her sexual actions performed to her male counterpart. I also added the tie and bow tie as images that enhance some aspects that men usually wear on a daily basis to further enhance the act of male dominance in the overall message of this advertisement. Burger King should not implement an advertisement of the act of a female performing oral sex on a man as something that is equivalent to a women eating a burger. Simply because it isn’t the same. However, it is a sexist means to grab reader’s attention because sex sells in the social media industry. It is clear that industries and brands will go through absurd length to sexualize their ads in order to gain attention. Most women do not enjoy giving blow jobs to a sandwiches. In my culture jamming assignment I wanted to highlight the philosophy that male dominance and the sexual exploitation of women is rapid among social media advertisements.
