Golden Retriever

Golden retrievers, the happiest animal in the world!

Golden Retriever

Latin name: Canis lupus familiaris
Other names: Chien

The golden retriever is a creature that you’ll most likely come across throughout your lifetime. A strongly built animal that shall not be feared for its violence but rather for its excitement when meeting new people and all the wet kisses that will be planted on your face. From the lands of Glen Affric, a southwest village located in Scotland was then brought upon the lands of America. Although the story of the first American golden retriever is of being bought off of a Russian circus, it was debunked recently.

Do not fear for its size as it will welcome you with kindness. Approaching you in such a way where tail waggling and a smile is the only thing you’ll see. The golden retriever is one of the easiest dogs to identify due to the popularity of the breed throughout North America this past decade. The most common colour coat of this medium-sized dog is gold (hence the name of the breed) and can also be brown, white and even black. The long thick waterproof coat and webbed paws will make them an excellent swimmer. The floppy ears and goofy smile makes this dog breed to be one of the most lovable alongside being affectionate, even-tempered, and intelligent. They love to be around people and will not do well from being home alone as they will suffer from separation anxiety and will start to get destructive. The golden retriever will do best in a house that has a large fenced backyard for them to play as they are active and a lot of energy to burn. They need to be in an environment that will grant them daily exercise and also be able to live indoor with their owners. I coin this animal as being local as it roams around my house and yard at times. Due to its easy and calm nature, many goldies are trained to become therapy and service dogs. They have no problem with training and will fair best when reinforced through treats. Take note that this breed loves to eat and will result in an overeating problem if portions are not controlled.

Be aware of one thing, once food gets within a one-meter approximation from the creature… it might be impossible to get back!
