Hola chicos

Today’s Spanish 201 class is cancelled.  I am including some review exercises for the grammar points included in the midterm as well as the translation answers.  Make good use of the extra time available to prepare for the midterm.

Las tareas de la semana 8

Hi guys

Because we have the second midterm next week. There is no blog homework.  I will put some practice activities in Ilearn on “por y para” and “equal/unequal comparisons”.  Which will be due Friday.

This weekend I would like you to go over the translation practice (the part that we didn´t do in class and finish it for Monday)  On Monday, we will go over the activity as a class and answer any questions you may have.

Información sobre el examen parcial II

As indicated in the syllabus,  El examen parcial II will be held on Friday, November 3rd.  The length of the exam is 50-55 minutes.  Please try and arrive 5 minutes early to our regularly scheduled classroom that day.  Pencil is recommended or bring white-out if you plan to use a pen. The format is very similar to first midterm.  It will include all information listed on the syllabus from Chapters 3 &4 (including the imperfect).  Please note, if a grammar point is not on the syllabus, it will NOT be on the exam. For example, the relative pronouns (3.4); the two other HACE expressions and the Subjunctive mood will not be included.  CONTENT FOR 201 EXAM II: Students are expected to:         I) PART I  (1/3 approx.) – Fill in the blanks in situations where they have to:  *Verbos que requieren una construcción especial:  Gustar, Encantar, Quedar, Faltar, Doler.

*Fill in the blank of a story with either the Imperfecto o el Pretérito

*Be able to use  los verbos que cambian de significado en el pretérito in context

*Por vs. Para

*Comparativos de desigualdad e igualdad

*Expresión de tiempo con HACE – p 99.  ONLY the 1st one!

We have been waiting for them for half an hour.

They have been here for 3 weeks.

-How long has he been teaching here? – He has been teaching here for 2 years.

 

PART II  (1/3 approx.) – Chose 1 topic and answer in a short paragraph.  Min 125 words but you should not shoot for the minimum.  You may be creative and make up stories if you want!   When writing, keep in mind: Content, Flow, Degree of Difficulty, Originality & Overall Expression in the target language.

 

Overly simplistic paragraphs and answers that don’t beyond the questions themselves, will NOT receive top marks.

 

Option A:  Las mejores celebraciones del ano  (lección 4)

Option B:  Tu vida universitaria  (lección 3)

*Note* you will need to use the past tenses in your paragraph

PART III  (1/3 approx.) D) Translate into Spanish. This section is text-specific and comprises the translation into Spanish of short situations or paragraphs similar to those we practice in class [with Práctica de Traducción II].  This section is also all-inclusive in terms of vocabulary and grammar structures studied so far this semester.  Knowledge of the specific vocabulary of from lessons 3 & 4 lesson is very important!

Las comparaciones y cambios al syllabus

Hola chicos.

Hay un par de cambios al plan de curso esta semana.  Hoy (10/25) y el viernes (10/27) vamos a ver las comparaciones de igualdad y desigualdad en español.  Y el lunes (10/30) vamos a repasar la actividad de traducción de las lecciones 3 y 4.  La clase de miércoles 1 de noviembre será cancelada pero se considera un día de repaso y preparación por el examen.  El viernes 3 tenemos examen parcial.  En clase voy a darles más detalles.

El viernes debo tener más información sobre el contenido del examen.  Por el momento, sé que se basa en el vocabulario y la gramática de lecciones 3 y 4 (con la excepción del subjuntivo).

Hola chicos

Hoy terminamos Lección 3 y comenzamos con Lección 4 (vocabulario y el uso del superlativo)

Las tareas para esta semana incluyen lo siguiente:

Ilearn:  Hay un par de ejercicios de lección 3 y un par de lección 4.

Blog:  La experiencia más extraña de mi vida.  Describe una experiencia muy extraña o extraordinaria que tuviste alguna vez (Usa el pretérito, imperfecto y el superlativo).  En la sección de comentarios.
