Moodle Proposal Posted

My Moodle proposal has been posted on my “Moodle Proposal” page.  I created the document in Word and used the “paste from Word” button, but I still had some formatting issues.  I was glad that I new HTML as I think it made my editing a bit easier.  I would now like to jazz up my splash page!

DVD not appropriate.

Interesting reading through the posts today that many felt that a DVD was not a good option for Anju.  I thought (and think) that is is a good option, but I am comfortable creating movies.  It is time consumming, but her message would get across to the clients.

Posting on YouTube

I think that a DVD that clients can take home and watch or posting the video on YouTube is a great choice for Anju. She has the camera and laptop and software is free for both PC and Mac. I have used both iMovie and MovieMaker and both are intuitive and user friendly. I taught myself how to use both of the programs with the free tutorials offered with the program, so I would direct Anju to those first.
The video editing software will allow Anju to add text or images to further explain her material. Once a video is created the scene splits are in place, so she can create an English version and other languages as required.
Creating a DVD has advantages in that it is easy for her clients to take home and watch. Posting on YouTube is advantageous in that she can upload any changes that she might want to make. YouTube only allows a 10 min video, so she would have to watch her time.

Moodle Adventure…

Today was my first Moodle adventure. I think it went well! When I first sat down to do this my nerves kicked in and I panicked a bit. I came across John’s tutorial, watched it and I was off. I create the site, did the welcome page, the forum all within 20 min or so. Two things worked well for me…having a starting off point to build my confidence (John’s video) and then just getting in and playing around. In terms of what was most challenging is that I really don’t know the capabilities of Moodle or what to expect from it. I know websites – there are pages, text, links and images. So with websites, I have a directions I wanted to go…with Moodle I don’t really know. I am thrilled that day 1 went well, and I look forward to creating more!

wiki

I am new to the wiki world. I see them on the web, but I have not used one or seen a classroom teacher use one yet. This week in ETEC 565 we are discussing what Lenora should do and many people created compelling arguments for the use of a wiki. Given her bandwidth constraint and her technical ability, I think it sounds like a great choice. I will have to do some more research here I think!

Moodle!?!?!

I briefly used Moodle in one of my other MET courses. I hear the hype, it seems great, and now it looks like I will get a chance to play around and have some fun with it. It was intiative as a user and I hope I have the same experience as a developer.

Value of an informal network

I initially wrote this post as an entry for this weeks discussion, but as I think about it more, I can emphasize the importance of an informal network when it comes to learning new technologies. I would say I have picked up bits and pieces from people who I work with and my students. Any ways, here is my post…

The fact that Benoit is debating between the two systems leads me to believe that he has the inclination and the technical ability to administer both systems. The scenario provided states that this is a large university and the Faculty of Arts is now using Moodle.

My question is – how many people are using Moodle in the Faculty of Arts and is there a ‘tech-champion’?

I believe that this is an important question as I know the value of working with one or two “tech champions”. If there is a core group of people in the Faculty of Arts he might be able to access direct support. Sometimes it is the informal networks that provide us the most useful tools!
