I’m doing really badly with posting about things as they happen… Sorry about that :(

This one’s about PVO (Place Vanier Olympics) and Graffiti Night, which happened a month ago today.. oops.

Okay so, September the 22nd, 2012 was, what I like to think of it as, Vanier day. (Totem did their own versions of our events; instead of the Olympics, they had Colour Wars, and instead of Graffiti Night, they had Glow)

In the morning, pretty much everyone was woken up at about 8:30 through loud music, lots of banging on doors and RAs screaming “WAKE UP FOR THE OLYMPICS“. Luckily I was already awake, so I showered, put on my beautiful Tec t-shirt and other appropriate clothing, and met in our house lounge at about 9 (I think). We were then quickly briefed on our entrance performance and our house cheers. We painted faces, got pumped, and headed out to the main Vanier field ready to kick the other houses’ butts.

The opening ceremony then started, and each house made their way onto the field through their entrance performance. I must admit, OkaBoo (Okanagan + Cariboo), KU (Korea UBC), and TweedSL’s (Tweedsmuir + Sherwood Lett) performances were very impressive. Each house was then given an event to start at, and we went around each event playing as a whole house. This year, we had a sort of wall of string with holes in it, and you had to get the whole house through without directly walking through the gaps, so we had to carry people through and you weren’t allowed to touch the string or you had to start again. We also had a tug of war, water balloon volleyball, shaving cream toss and other things like that. It was a really good day for house/Vanier spirit and house bonding :) I really enjoyed it.

PVRA’s (Place Vanier Residence Association) Graffiti Night started at 9:00, which was highly anticipated by pretty much everyone. You had to buy tickets, which were $10 and came with a plain white t-shirt and permanent market. The point is that you go to Graffiti Night and everyone writes something on your t-shirt and you look at it the next morning and it’s super funny. Luckily it didn’t rain, so it was held in the Vanier tennis courts. Not as many people showed up as I was expecting, and the music wasn’t that great so it was a sort of ‘meh’ night for me. A whole lot of other people had loads of fun though.. again, it is what you make it! I definitely enjoyed the Olympics more, even though Tec only got third (we thought we’d win..)

Oh well. It was still a good day :)
