Citation Management for Japan Specialists: Zotero

Workshop: Citation Management Workshop for Japan Specialists
Featuring Zotero

  • April 30 (Friday), 1:30-3:00pm
  • Asian Library, Room 506 (may change to Irving K. Barber Learning Centre Rm 318 depending on demand)

Citation management tools are not only useful in storing and formatting citations, but they can also be used to store and organize article pdfs and notes. For this session I will be looking at the Zotero Firefox plugin, and providing information on its functionality with Japanese-language records and script.

InterLibrary Loans for Japanese Material

In an effort to improve access to resources held in Japanese libraries, UBC has recently become a participating library of the Global ILL Framework (GIF) project. Currently, 134 Japanese libraries provide document delivery services and 74 Japanese libraries lend out books through GIF. For more information on the project, check out the brochure.

All InterLibrary Loans (ILLs) are processed through our InterLibrary Loan office. To order an ILL, go to the UBC ILL site and complete the order form. Please contact me if you are ordering Japanese materials for the first time, or if you are ordering a title that does not come up through a WorldCat search. For items with a WorldCat record, always try and include the OCLC accession number found in the record (see below).

Want to learn more about how to access databases, electronic journals, print journals, and newspaper sources for Japanese Studies? Come to this session, and explore the variety of materials in both Japanese and English language sources.

Note: Although registration is for the full hour, participants are welcome to attend only the parts that are of interest to them.

Asian Library Workshops for Japanese Studies

There will be three instructional workshops this fall related to Japanese resources at Asian Library. The schedule is as follows:

Introduction to Japanese Language Learning Resources
October 22 (Mon)
10:00 – 11:00am
Learn about all the print and electronic resources available to UBC students learning Japanese. A tour of the library is included, and you can try out our language-learning software!

Overview of Library and Electronic Resources in Japanese Studies
October 25 (Thu)
10:00 – 11:00am
Discover the Japanese resources at Asian Library. The session will include tips on searching the catalogue and an introduction to Japanese-language electronic resources, such as the JapanKnowledge database.

RefWorks for Japanese Studies
October 26 (Fri)
10:00 – 11:00am
Learn how to use RefWorks for citations, bibliography management and collaboration. Includes tips on using the program for citing Japanese language materials.
