Hey guys! So last night was the 91st annual Academy Awards. In case you were too busy to watch (lame), here are some of the awards, highlights and best red carpet dresses!

AWARDS

Best Picture: Green Book

This was rather unexpected and anticlimactic, but congrats to Green Book nonetheless! When the film was announced, you could literally hear audience members say “oh.”  And they didn’t show any reaction shots from the audience either  -___-

Best Director: Alfonso Cuarón (Roma)

This was Cuarón’s THIRD Oscar speech of the night as he also won for best cinematography and best foreign language film. He seemed rather proud of himself.

Best Actor: Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody)

Rami won for his incredible performance as Freddie Mercury, yay! His speech was wonderful and humble. Also breaking news: he’s now dating his costar, Lucy Boynton and thanked her during his speech, so cute! Andddd apparently he fell off the stage which is hysterical, but somehow the cameras failed to catch that :/

Best Actress: Olivia Colman (The Favourite)

Olivia Colman won! Yay! Well deserved in UFSA’s opinion. She shared a really cute moment with Emma Stone when her name was announced and she was so stunned that she was literally speechless. She sobbed through her first words (well, sounds really), “ooooh,” “ummm,” “ahhh,” “this is hilarious” and “it’s genuinely quite stressful.” Nonetheless, she composed herself and managed to give a truly emotional speech! If you weren’t crying alongside her at home, you’re heartless.

Best Supporting Actor: Mahershala Ali (Green Book)

Yay for Mahershala! This is his second Oscar; his first was for moonlight! His speech was genuinely grateful and he thanked his grandmother, so cute. Andddd he wore a funny hat – teehee.

Best Supporting Actress: Regina King (If Beale Street Could Talk)

Uggghhhh what can’t we say about Regina? She’s a queen. She looked stunning in her white dress (our personal fave). Her speech was beautiful, humble and she sobbed through the whole thing. And let’s be real, Regina has been waiting on her Academy Award since A Cinderella Story with Hilary Duff (yes that’s where you know her from).

HIGHLIGHTS

Amy poehler, tina fey, maya rudolph opener

The three queens of comedy opened up the Oscars following the performance by Queen with a small little intro monologue. They made tons of jokes about the nominees and the absence of a host. It was funny and non-offensive and everyone wished they had hosted the whole thing.

Queen’s performance

Queen and Adam Lambert opened the Oscars with a mashup of “We Will Rock You” and “We Are the Champions.” It was so awesome and fun! Reaction shots of the audience showed guests like Amy Adams, Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper and JLo hard-core jamming out. It was like watching all your favourite celebrities attend a rock concert (which is creepily voyeuristic, but we loved it).

Shallow

Okay. I’m gonna try and write this one without crying… but Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga gave the most EMOTIONAL performance of Shallow ever. It was so unexpected and there wasn’t even an introduction to the song – it just started out of nowhere and everyone immediately shut up. For some reason they both looked uncomfortably orange… but they both sounded BEAUTIFUL and right after Lady Gaga did the “Awwwhhaaaahhhaaaa” (you know what I’m talking about), Bradley went and sat next her on the bench and we witnessed a VERY intimate moment between them, but for a brief moment the thought of Irina Shayk didn’t exist and life was bliss (pause for breath).

Melissa McCarthy and Brian Tyree Henry

So… Melissa McCarthy and Brian Tyree Henry dressed up as The Favourite and Mary Poppins (respectively) and kept a straight face the entire time while presenting the award for costumes. It was equally disturbing and entertaining, but we loved it.

QUICK HIGHLIGHTS

  • Krysten Ritter is pregnant (hallo?)
  • Lady Gaga is a Tony away from winning an EGOT now (OKAY)
  • JLo and ARod are still together (wut)
  • Spike Lee jumped on Samuel L. Jackson
  • Spike Lee also behaved weirdly during the press junket and told the world that the “refs made a bad call”
  • A small woman in a green dress couldn’t reach the microphone (lol)
  • Paul Rudd made a subtle appearance and has seemingly reversed in age
  • Chris Evans helped Regina King up to the stage and our faith in humanity was restored

THE DRESSES

I’ll let you decide how you feel about them (obviously some are gorgeous and some are horrendous, but that is not for me to judge), so for now they will be presented objectively in no particular order. Enjoy.
