Poster Presentation

James Nizam is a Canadian artist who is known for blurring the boundaries between photography and sculpture. His works consist of photographs where sculpture, architecture and light is explored. He frequently uses abandoned spaces such as houses up for demolition or furniture that is going to be thrown out in his work. He is described as “a photographer who makes sculptures and a sculptor who takes photographs.” Prominent work includes photography series where he creates a camera obscura in a room, controlling the light that enters by strategically placing mirrors and then using long exposures to photograph the light rays. He received his BFA from the University of British Columbia. His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, with exhibitions in Germany, Switzerland, and all over Canada. He is represented by Gallery Jones and was nominated for a Sobey Art Award (a prestigious Canadian contemporary art award) in 2011 and 2017.
