To explore the world of business, with passion and creativity

Thoughts on social entreprenur (blog#11)

ARC, aimed at providing the poverty-stricken people with money management ideas and advice on their sustainable business. Unlike some charity organizations, which donate people in the impoverished area with the money or material, Arc, instead, equipped the people in poverty with knowledge.

In the short term scale, those people might not profit at once. They might still suffer starvation, coldness, and illnesses. But as long as they are equipped with knowledge, their life would be changed for-ever.

Money and materials(food, clean water, etc) will run out of use one day, but knowledge will be useful for life. With knowledge, they can learn how to make some product, cultivate some plant, which can let them make money their own, instead of receiving the donation from others. The reality of lack of resource make them poor, and the only thing that can let them get rid of poverty is their own sweat.

According to the passage, Panasonic and Tesla have signed up the agreement on the co-construction of the gigafactory, a large-scale battery manufacturing plant in the United States.  Panasonic and Tesla both have comparative advantages in different areas. To be specific, Panasonic has experience in manufacturing and Tesla is equipped itself with expertise in the battery construction.By cooperation, they can minimize the cost of construction and maximize their expected profit.

Maybe in the short-term development, cooperation might in a way shrink the expected profit because of the division of the income with Panasonic. But in a long-term scale, this strategy is more suitable and profitable for Tesla. Because, with the manufacturing technology provided by Panasonic, Tesla is supposed to shorten the construction days, which means the gigafactory can be put into use sooner. The opportunity benefit from the early construction exceeds the opportunity cost of the shrinked profit in the early stage.

Cooperation is a great strategy of a company’s expansion or development, and it is highly recommended.

An Inevitable trend in Smartphone Industry

Sony is a absolutely popular smartphone brand years ago, yep, years ago and only for years ago. With the overwhelming attack of Samsung and Apple, Sony is fading out of the smartphone industry little by little, even though it has struggled for a much long time compared to other brands like Nokia.

While, why would Sony get to that kind of humiliating situation? As far as I concern, it is just a representative of the significant that lead to a failure in the market. In face of the Samsung, who owns functional and practical softwares, let alone the Apple with stable and reliable system, Sony is so hard to keep a foothold unless it find whatever distinguish itself.

Moreover, I’ d like to make a further assumption. That is, before long, Samsung would also be dragged out of the smartphone market due to its poor performance. Another reason is that Apple is so powerful that it is able to cover almost capacity that Samsung owns. Thus, with progressing technology and more attention of Apple, it would develop better and better until it can satisfy all the needs in smartphone market or even the whole electronic product market. It is hard to accept but have to admit that the phone market has developed from “contending” to “thriving”.

7-ALIBABA-master495

After I read Siyu Chen’s blog post about the Jack Ma, the CEO of Alibaba, I was greatly impressed by this amazing man. His persistence, insight, courage are all invaluable characteristics of a successful businessman.

Persistence: The path to a successful career is always difficult. In order not to give in to the difficulties, a good businessman should be persistent enough. Jack Ma did go through a lot of diffculties when he was about to set up Alibaba.

insight: Every industry has its history of evolution. But before it comes to its peak, few people have insight in it and  therefore lose the best investment opportunities. Jack Ma was one of the first people who have insight in the electronic business. At that time, few people have confidence in this new industry and many people anticiptated its failure in the coming days. Whereas, Jack Ma insisted the correctness of his own opinion and he made no effort to develop his business. In the end, Jack Ma’s huge success proved his insight to be correct and wise.

courage: As electronic business was a new-built industry, the risk of it was enormous. Everyone who decided to enter this market needed tremendous courage to take the huge risk. Jack Ma, a courageous man, did so. Then the great risk he took brought him huge profit in return.

Jack Ma has recently become the richest people in China and I consider the characteristics mentioned above contribute a lot to his success.

company culture does matter

When graduates search for their first job, they would always firstly consider the type of job then comes the salary. While, the company culture is the one that affects more the decision of the employees, since the core value and the principal mission are what support and give incentive employees to work hard in essence.

As the news said, company may always build a clear own culture to show its orientation. By doing this, the job-seeker who is more near to the company cultural would be more likely to present better in the interview as well as the further work, so that the turnover may be guarantee at a lower lever. Therefore, similarly, those who admire the company culture may spare more effort on work so that create and contribute more. Moreover, working with the colleagues with the same attitude towards their business, is more easily to maintain good relationship between each other.

Whereas, a company with no bright own culture, may be more likely to gain the employees who are less positive and less loyal. Company culture stands like the soul of an individual, without it, the company does not have the steady faith, so as the employees. Thus, the company has the higher probability of exposing to risk and fail due to instability.

I’m fully convinced with Linjuan Huang’s opinion to the company’s promoting strategy–shooting a short film concerning with the product.

With the more and more drastic competition in the market, companines meet increasing severe crisis of the losing market share.  To keep the constomers, promotion will be one of options that a company could do. In tradition, advertisements on public media, posters, discount activities are common methods for promotion. Though these ways could attract the customers’ attention, this effect can not last for long. Customers will soon feel no interest in the companies’ products.

From my perspective, what can really make a deep impression on the customers’ mind is the ones that make the customers emotionally touched, maybe a story behind the brand, a piece of melody.

A short movie is exactly an extraordinary method of impressing the customers emotionally. In the movie, the company can get the product “alive” by  making it an important part showing up in the plots. I used to watch a short movie of a chocolate brand. In the movie, the male and female leading role are very fond of that brand’s chocolate, which make them friend as soon as they met each other and fell in love soon. After I watch this romantic movie, every time I go to the supermarket and see that chocolate, I will buy one.

Make your customers emotionally attached to your product, and your companies can absolutely survive in the competitive market.

First Nation

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/background-the-indian-act-1.1056988

The aboriginal communities is vanishing in the society. The laws actually kill the India in the child. That might be a severe harm to India’s long term development. As the number of aboriginal people is steeply decreasing, the culture and language of the communities is disappearing.

The travel industry might experience severe losses due to the demolishing culture and places of interests. People would become much less interested in paying a visit here. Less visitors, less income for the travel agencies, the shops. A city is losing its energy and charm without the support from multicultural environment. And this will lead to a harm on the local economy.

It’s fair and necessary for the government to carry out policies that protect the aboriginal communities, not only for the protection of the valuable culture but also for the improvement of the local economy.

http://www.tomsguide.com/us/facebook-healthcare-initiative,news-19678.html

Facebook is now stepping to the stage of health care!It seems revolutionary and novel for a social website to have health care included in their operation.

From my perspective, it’s quite helpful for the facebook users to enjoy this service. Not only can they develop their social relationship when using the facebook,
but also help eliminating their health concern. They can seek advice online for healthcare or for determining their health problem by sharing their symtoms with other facebook users who have experiences in it.
What’s more, by showing their willingness of devoting the organs as a status on their front page, Facebook might gradually turn to be a relativey reliable and large resource for obtaining information on organ donation, which is pretty helpful to not only the users but also the whole socierty.

Launching this function, it is no doubt that Facebook would gain tremendous triumph in getting large marketshare in the following future. Because it’s no longer simply a social application but also a healthcare provider. Young adults and teenagers, who’s usually socially active, might be the main clients of Facebook. But by providing the health care service, Facebook is able to distinguish itself from the
normal social apps like twitter, tumblr. It is creating its unique business value, which is the decisive winning factor of a company.
From my angle alone, a company should keep developing its own unique value in order to make itself outstanding in the competitive market.

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/careers/leadership-lab/goof-up-as-a-leader-then-apologize-and-take-action/article20895361/

The passage is revealing the key factors of displaying one’s leadership during the period of crisises. It’s said that apology is the least important action when crisis break out.
A successful leader is expected to :
clear communication,
owning up to your mistakes,
and decisive action.

” You have to do what you say you will do.” Action is the best proof. Fancy words help nothing in dealing with the problem, however, on the contrary, it would raise the doubt and suspect from the staffs of your leadership and ability.
An achieved leader should have better problem solving skills than lecturing skills. Communication is the first step, to determine the stem of the problem. Owing up the responsibility, and then, launch the most reliable plan for solving the problem.
Words are needed, but all what a leader says should be of high validation. What you say, must be done or achieved. By this mean, leader is able to develop trust and reputation among the subordinates.

Many people hope to be a successful leader, but there is still a long way to go.

The iPhone6 came out!

http://www.cnet.com/news/the-crisis-of-the-bending-iphone-6-solving-the-problem/

Finally, the iPhone 6 came out! As expected, it becomes a heatedly-discussed topic. The long waiting line in front of  Apple store in Richmond center before the saling day well proved its popularity and people’s crazy passion. However, though i6’s system and design have been improved a lot, according to the recent buyer’s feedbacks, iPhone6 exists some disappointing drawbacks. (As mentioned in the cited website)

Normally, if a product has been proved to be problematic, its sale tends to decrease. Whereas, Apple did not suffer any apparent losses. The sale of iPhone6 still increases dramatically. What magic is Apple using?

-Brand Marketing: Apple has developed itself into a brand of high-technology, innovation and intelligence.  With this fact, people are fond of  purchasing products from Apple, which would show their good taste and improve their life quality. Based on this brand effect, customers are much less likely to change thier mind in buying the latest iPhone6.

-Customization: As a competitve company in the market, Apple applies the strategy of customization. The small screen size is always disappoingting some people who want a cellphone with a super big screen. Therefore, this time, iPhone6 plus has been launched along with iPhone6. iPhone6 plus,a bigger version of iPhone6, is customized to satisfy the large screen lovers’ need.

With the strategies mentioned above, I bet on a big sale of iPhone6 in the coming days.
