What I am here for?

Heraclitus said “the only thing that is constant is change”. Anyone that has worked in any team or organization knows that specially in our times there is always a new tool, process, or initiative looking to change the way things are done. A survey of change initiatives in for profit organizations found that up to 93% of change initiatives fail, with most estimates falling between 50% and 90% of all initiatives failing. That means that most of us, including you, are likely to have been part of a failed change initiative.

This learning module aims to help you reduce the chance that an initiative you are spearheading, or that you are part of, will fail. We will be focusing on project based change initiatives in comparison to broader transformations as different approaches might be merited depending on the size and scope of the planned change.

After this module you will be able to to achieve the following:

  1. Understand key principles and activities that influence the success of a change initiative
  2. Link the impact assessment to different change activities
  3. Create a template and plan for conducting an impact assessment
  4. Conduct an initial impact assessment for a project based change initiative

Time to complete module: 1 hour
This activity created by Alex Monegro for ETEC530: Constructivism Strategies for e-Learning, as part of the UBC Master’s in Education Technology Program.

Ok, but why should I care?
