Totem Park

NW Marine Drive at Agronomy Road, UBC Vancouver Campus

Totem Park is a small square of temperate coastal rainforest adjacent to the student residences of the same name on UBC Vancouver’s main campus. With numerous species of plants and animals making it home, the forest also welcomes human visitors looking for connection on this land of the Musqueam people that have lived and cared for our kin here for millennia.

UBC campus once featured numerous forested areas, where a place of mind was also a place of body, carved as it is into what was once an ancient forest overlooking the Salish Sea. Now there are only vestiges of the multi-species assemblage that once inhabited this place.

We invite you to visit Totem Park, to consider the constructions and destructions evoked by time spent in this place, and to encounter, embody and entangle yourself with this site of rupture where land meets the sea.
