Getting Hired in Higher Education Panel!

Interested in a career in academic libraries? Want to learn more about navigating the hiring process and securing your first professional position?  The Academic Librarians in Public Service (ALPS) section of the BCLA/CLA Student Chapter is thrilled to announce the annual Getting Hired in Higher Education Panel!

Join us on Tuesday, October 29 2013 from 12:00-1:30pm in the Dodson Room (within the Chapman Learning Commons in the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre) to hear from recent graduates as they share their experiences transitioning from student to professional in the world of academic librarianship!

Panelists from college and university libraries will discuss their paths from graduation to employment, and the tips, tricks, and strategies they have found useful as new librarians and information specialists. You’ll also have the opportunity to ask our speakers your questions on how best to prepare yourself for success as an academic librarian!

Our panelists:

  • Leah Hopton (Project Coordinator, BC Electronic Library Network)
  • Elyse Neufeld (Information and Instruction Liaison Librarian, SFU)
  • Franklin Sayre (Pharmacy & Dentistry Liaison Librarian, UBC)
  • Mari Paz Vera (Assistant Department Head & Librarian, Public Services, VCC)
  • Jenna Walsh (Indigenous Initiatives Librarian & Liaison for Archaeology, First Nations Studies and Political Science, SFU)
