Dear researchers and friends interested in Food is Medicine,
We are pleased to announce the launch of the Behavioral Science Webinar Series, organized by the Behavioral Science Task Force as part of the AHA Health Care by Food initiative. This series is designed to support researchers by exploring how behavioral science and marketing strategies can be integrated into Food Is Medicine (FIM) research.
To introduce the series, we have released an introductory webinar by chairs of the task force, Dr. Kevin Volpp and Dr. Cait Lamberton, who provide an overview of Health Care by Food Initiative and the series’ goals and areas of focus.
We also encourage you to register for the full series to receive calendar invitations, reminders and access to all upcoming sessions: Webinar Registration – Zoom
We’re honored to feature a dynamic lineup of experts in behavioral science and marketing discussing topics ranging from building a brand to maximizing recruitment and retention to AI in food consumption.

Please visit our website to see the more information on upcoming sessions. All webinars in the series will be recorded and made available on the website following each session.
Our first live webinar will be:
Title: Deciding “Evaluating Programs vs. Mechanisms”
Speaker: Dr. Justin R. Sydnor, PhD, University of Wisconsin
Date & Time: Tuesday, May 6, 2025 | 12:30–1:30 pm Pacific
This session will examine the important distinction between evaluating programs (whether an intervention works) and evaluating mechanisms (the underlying behavioral processes that explain why it works). Dr. Sydnor will share relevant examples from behavioral science and offer practical guidance for researchers seeking to apply these approaches in their study designs.
We look forward to having you with us.
With heart,
AHA Health Care by Food Behavioral Science Task Force
