Thank you to all of our amazing guests this year for making season 5 so interesting and engaging! We are so grateful you let us “call dibs” on you! Thank you as well to this season’s student podcast editor, Olin Becker.

Here’s what we covered in season 5:

How the practice of BI is evolving and improving
  • Episode 99 with Adrian Camilleri: We chatted about older research and newer research exploring how to personalize nudges to match the right nudge to the right person.
  • Episode 98 with Crystal Hall: We discussed specific ways we can make behavioural science antiracist by improving how we approach projects.
  • Episode 93 with Jeremy Gretton: We discussed the value of combining academic and applied expertise, qualitative and quantitative approaches, behaviour and systems change, and rigour and impact.
  • Episode 92 with Paloma Bellatin: We learned about using digital innovation to create new technology, improve existing technology, and protect against online harms.
  • Episode 90 and Episode 91 with Dilip Soman and Bing Feng: In this two-part series, we discussed the Behaviourally-Informed Organizations project and its impact on behavioural science theory, on BI methods, on people’s lives, and on the uptake of BI.
  • Episode 84 with Jeff Mackey-Murdock: We discuss the value of combining approaches and how this opens up opportunities for using BI in different ways to tackle challenges local governments are facing.
Projects applying BI to different challenges
  • Episode 97 with Jade Radke and Crystal Hall: We talked about using the “Happy Climate” approach to increase both climate action and happiness.
  • Episode 95 with Eva Koromilas: We discussed worldwide efforts to combat sludge and make life easier for people trying to access important services and programs.
  • Episode 94 with Penny Norman: We learned about specific examples of promoting harm reduction behaviours plus methodological takeaways that apply to all BI projects.
  • Episode 89 with Rachel Yang: We chatted about projects using behavioural science to make technical systems safer by changing the behaviour of contractors and skiers.
  • Episode 85 with Alan Shapiro: We learned about projects using behavioural science to reduce human-wildlife conflict and about opportunities for using behavioural science to address the water crisis.
How BI complements and can be combined with other disciplines
  • Episode 96 with Holly Caggiano: We explored how combining behavioural science and planning can help us better explore the forces shaping human behaviour and make more progress toward community-led planning and nudging.
  • Episode 88 with Kerstin Behrens-Bolt: We discussed opportunities for including BI in the design of services, how knowledge is managed and shared, how quality is assured, and how training is delivered.
  • Episode 87 with Shellee Ritzman: We explored the overlap between social marketing and behavioural insights, including their shared goal of understanding and changing behaviour for good and their different approaches to measurement and evaluation.
  • Episode 86 with Brent Novikoff: We discuss the intersection between opinion research and BI as well as opportunities to use BI in government.
Reflections on 100 Episodes
  • Episode 100 with Kirstin Appelt: We took a moment to reflect on our top takeaways over 100 episodes and 5 seasons of Calling DIBS.
