The folks at the University of Toronto’s BEAR (Behavioural Economics in Action at Rotman) are hosting a webinar:

BEAR Webinar with Prof. Tongzhe Li (University of Guelph)

Self-Replications and Null Results: Dilemma or New Hope for Experimental Economists?
Wednesday Oct. 15, 2025 @9:00am – 10:00am PT

“In the past, economists often used replication as a way to damage their opponents’ position, in other words, to play ‘gotcha.’”
–Anonymous reviewer, Nature

The webinar features a replication study that reconsiders one of the most widely studied behavioural biases: anchoring effects. In the replication study, despite using a stronger design with greater statistical power and involving some of the same researchers, the replication results reject the size of the original estimated effect with a much smaller impact.

Prof. Li shares details of this experience and discusses pathways to important replication studies that can help address statistical power, internal validity and external validity issues.
