My main research is the failure analysis of the retrieved modular hip implants. Each year, over 10 percentage of total hip replacement are revised in Canada due to various failures, such as metallic release, fracture, and adverse tissue reactions, which have not been fully understood. Through collaboration with orthopedists, we collect and analyze retrieved hip implants to identify their specific failing reasons from materials aspect. Based on these mechanisms, we proposal the improved implants design and conduct in vitro experiment to demonstrate our mode.
