Connecting Early Career Canadian Freshwater Microplastics Researchers (CECCFMR) is an event held by the University of British Columbia which will bring together early career researchers from across Canada who are working in the field of freshwater microplastics research.

The goal of our meeting will be to facilitate a space for researchers to meet, share their research, and foster new collaborations in an encouraging environment. As global attention continues to engage the public on the pervasive issue of plastic pollution in our aquatic ecosystems, the field of microplastics research continues to grow globally. Canada has proven to be committed to tackling the issue of plastic pollution. In order to achieve this goal, contributions from researchers, such the participants of this workshop, are needed to provide evidence to inform policies and decision-making processes which will protect our freshwater biodiversity. This meeting will provide the opportunity for early career researchers in this field to learn from each other and begin to tackle this issue together.

This event will take place on March 9 and 10th, 2022 from 10am PST – 1 pm PST. There will be presentations from participants, a keynote speaker, and a networking event.

This meeting is funded by the University of British Columbia Research Excellence Cluster Grant, as a part of a cluster for Biodiversity Research: an emerging global research priority. More information about the grant can be found here
