April 09 CHBE Grad Club Seminar‏

Hi everyone,

The Chemical and Biological Engineering Graduate Club is organizing a seminar series where the faculty members of UBC share the stories of their successes as well as making important career decisions. These highly interactive seminars provide an excellent opportunity to hear instructing, exciting and valuable experiences of the speakers and can prove very helpful in developing skills necessary for professional work environments in academia and industry.

The seminar information:

Title: Starting and Running an Innovative Company – A Case Study

We are pleased to announce Dr. Shahram Tafazoli as the speaker of the upcoming seminar in the series. Dr. Tafazoli founded Motion Metrics International Corporation after completing PhD from UBC Electrical & Computer Engineering. Currently, he is the President and CEO of that company. He also holds an Adjunct Professorship position with UBC ECE department and is a full member of the Institute for Computing, Information, and Cognitive Systems (ICICS). In addition, Dr. Tafazoli is a member of the Precarn Incorporated’s Board of Directors as well as the TEC Canada which is the Canadian arm of an international member organization for Chief Executive Officers.

The Chemical and Biological Engineering Graduate Club is organizing a seminar series where the faculty members of our department share the stories of achieving their first faculty positions as well as making important career decisions. These highly interactive seminars provide an excellent opportunity to hear instructing, exciting and valuable experiences of our faculty members and can prove very helpful in developing skills necessary for professional work environments in academia and industry.

We are pleased to announce Dr. Clive Brereton as the speaker of the upcoming seminar in the series. Dr. Brereton had worked as full-time faculty member in this department before joining NORAM Engineering and Constructors Limited. Currently, he is serving as the Vice President, Technology and oversees process development work at NORAM. He is also acting as Director of NORAM’s Electrochemistry division. In addition, Dr. Brereton is the President of BC Research Inc. and is an Adjunct Professor with this department.

Nov. 26 CHBE Grad Club Seminar‏

The Chemical and Biological Engineering Graduate Club is organizing a seminar series where the faculty members of our department share the stories of achieving their first faculty positions as well as making important career decisions. These highly interactive seminars provide an excellent opportunity to hear instructing, exciting and valuable experiences of our faculty members and can prove very helpful in developing skills necessary for professional work environments in academia and industry.

We are pleased to announce Dr. Peter Englezos as the speaker of the upcoming seminar in the series. Dr. Englezos has worked as faculty member for more than 20 years at UBC. In addition to teaching and research, he has been serving as the head of our department since 2009. In this capacity he has been highly involved with several faculty hiring process.
