Nov. 26 CHBE Grad Club Seminar‏

The Chemical and Biological Engineering Graduate Club is organizing a seminar series where the faculty members of our department share the stories of achieving their first faculty positions as well as making important career decisions. These highly interactive seminars provide an excellent opportunity to hear instructing, exciting and valuable experiences of our faculty members and can prove very helpful in developing skills necessary for professional work environments in academia and industry.

We are pleased to announce Dr. Peter Englezos as the speaker of the upcoming seminar in the series. Dr. Englezos has worked as faculty member for more than 20 years at UBC. In addition to teaching and research, he has been serving as the head of our department since 2009. In this capacity he has been highly involved with several faculty hiring process. 1st CHBE Annual Conference

Hello Everyone,

The CHBE Graduate Student Club (CHBE GSB) is pleased to invite you to attend and contribute the first CHBE Annual Conference to be held on spring. Over 100 students are expected to be in attendance from CHBE.

They will have the opportunity to learn from each other through presentations including panels, oral presentation and poster sessions. The conference also invites companies strengthening network between department and industries.

I am pleased to introduce Fahimeh Yazdanpanah as Chair of this conference. Fahimeh is PhD student and was VP-finance of CHBE GSB for two years, 2010 and 2011.

CHBE Reception

I want to say Thank you for attending the reception and helping to make this day special. It was very a good day and everything was organized very well. CHBE LOGO DESIGN CONTEST

We need your help to design a logo for graduate student club to demonstrate the spirits, interests and creativities of CHBE graduate students. The winning logo will be used in the future to represent CHBE Graduate Student Club. The reward for winning design will be 2 tickets for Whitecaps’ last regular season game on October 21st.

Here is some general guidelines for your design:

1. The design must be original, and cannot contain any religious symbols.

2. The design should not be hard to reproduce on T-shirts, cards and etc. Thus, the use of colours should be efficient and effective.

3. Along with the logo, a brief description (less than 200 words) of the inspiration and meaning of the logo must be submitted.

4. The winner is required to prepare a 5 minute presentation to explain his/her inspiration and design to his/her colleagues.

5. The winner must be able to attend the weekly seminar on October 12th to present his/her design and to receive the reward.

6. Please submit your design to ywang@chbe.ubc.ca before September 30th!
