Course Description

Entries in this blog are assignment submissions for ENGL 301 Technical Writing, which is taught by Dr. Erika Paterson at the University of British Columbia. ENGL 301 focuses on written and online communication in business, professional, and technical contexts. The course is fully online and provides students with opportunities to practice writing blog posts, emails, and other forms of online communication. Through participation in online discussion and peer review, students in ENGL 301 will reflect on their writing and improve their editing skills. The course will emphasize the iterative nature of the writing process and the importance of writing with the intended audience in mind. In addition, ENGL 301 will help students to establish their online presence by creating a LinkedIn profile and a web folio.

Personal Expectations

I am looking forward to ENGL 301, because I believe it will provide me with opportunities to practice various forms of writing and improve my writing skills. As a software developer, I often communicate with my team in writing, especially when working remotely, so any opportunity to improve my writing skills is welcome! I am also excited to polish my LinkedIn profile and increase my online presence through a web folio. I believe that these tools could help me to find new career opportunities and achieve my professional goals. Perhaps most of all, I am looking forward to working with the other students in ENGL 301. The University of British Columbia is home to thousands of bright, creative people, so I’m sure that I can learn a lot from online discussions with my classmates. If you’re reading this, I’d love to hear what you think about my writing, too. Pick any of my blog posts and leave me a comment!
