Revised Definition Assignment

To gain experience writing for a specific audience, students in ENGL 301 were instructed to write three types of definitions: parenthetical, sentence, and expanded. For each type of definition, we focused on the same technical term. To effectively communicate the meaning of the chosen technical term, it was necessary to consider the intended audience, their pre-existing knowledge, and their purpose in reading the definitions. Revised Peer Review of Geneviève Bolduc’s Definition Assignment

Students in ENGL 301 formed writing teams and reviewed the work of their teammates. Peer reviews help to find errors and areas of improvement. In addition, writing a peer review is itself a reflective exercise, which can help students to reconsider their own writing. Writing constructive criticism in a way that will be well received by the reader can be challenging. Eliminating pronouns from the body of a peer review is one way to avoid causing offense. Revised Formal Report Proposal

Preparing a formal report requires numerous steps, each of which can involve considerable work. To avoid wasting time and effort in an unprofitable direction, it is wise to first draft a proposal and seek feedback before conducting research. For example, my formal report proposal initially failed to identify the intended audience. You can view my Revised Formal Report Proposal here.

Formal Report Progress

Because formal reports require numerous steps, they can take a long time to prepare. Therefore, it is a good idea for writers to inform their superior of their progress, so that corrections can be made before it is too late. Creating a progress report can also help writers to manage their time effectively by planning when they will work on each step of the formal report. You can view my Formal Report Progress here.

Letter Delivering Bad News

Writing a letter delivering bad news, like writing a letter of complaint, can be challenging. When delivering bad news, it is best to write with an indirect approach and to couch the bad news in positivity. You can view my Letter Delivering Bad News here.
