EDST Well-Being Series: Mindfulness with Mahfida – September Diamond Art Painting Workshop

To live a happy, healthy, and meaningful life, it is important to de-stress from daily anxieties and attend to our mental well-being. The EDST community is invited to join Mindfulness with Mahfida — a monthly series of mindfulness practices designed to nurture calm, connection, and creativity in academic life.

Each session offers a new theme — from arts & crafts to mindful eating, guided meditation, breathing practices, and gratitude journalling — with the goal of helping participants feel more grounded and centred in their academic and professional journeys.

September Event: Diamond Art Painting Workshop

This month’s session featured a Diamond Art Painting Workshop, where participants created their own sparkling butterfly keychains and artworks — and took them home as reminders of calm and creativity.

Students shared how much they enjoyed the soothing music, refreshments, and the meditative rhythm of placing each gem. Every artwork was uniquely designed, reflecting the participants’ personalities and creative focus. As seen in the photos, everyone was fully immersed — quiet concentration and laughter filling the room.

This time, our wonderful EDST staff members, Hui and Geno, also joined in! Like the students, they found joy in the process and proudly displayed their butterfly keychains in the group photo.

Although time flew by and not everyone completed their pieces, participants will have another opportunity to refine and finish their artworks during the November Mindfulness with Mahfida event. So, if you missed out this time — join us next month for more mindful fun and connection!

Snacks and drinks were provided for all participants.
Photos are shared with student permission. Participants who chose not to be photographed are not included.

About the Series

Mindfulness with Mahfida is part of the ongoing EDST Well-Being Series, supported by the Graduate Academic Assistant (GAA) team. With a new theme each month, the sessions are open to everyone in the EDST community — students, staff, and faculty alike.

Together, we continue building a culture of care, connection, and well-being within our academic home.
