A few of my friends are representing Canada at the Beijing Olympics and the first results are coming in. Igor Tikhomirov finished in the top 16 in Mens Epee. Winning his first bout 15 – 11 vs Ukraine KHVOROST Maksym and losing his second bout to France JEANNET Fabrice who finished 2nd overall. I had the great pleasure of traveling with him to a number of world cups. Igor is a true sportsman, always willing to help, and with a confident smile on his face.

Olga Ovtchinnikova also finished in the top 16 in Women’s Sabre after beating
Korea LEE Shinmi 15 – 13 and losing to Tunisia BESBES Azza 15 – 12 in a very close bout. I am looking forward to her stories the next time I meet her.

Scholarpress Courseware

One of my goals this summer was to start developing templates, plugins for wordpress, that would eventually enable wordpress to be used to as courseware. I am glad to find that I am not the only one (outside of UBC) to be working and thinking about this option. Both Jeremy Boggs and Dave Lester have started working on something very similar.

The project is called Scholarpress Courseware and it looks very promising.

Courseware enables you to manage a class with a WordPress blog, including a schedule, bibliography, assignments, and other course information.

My plan for the upcoming week or so is to extend the plugin, to include the following.
Lecture Notes, Syllabus, Resources, Readings, Simple Calander, Schedule, Projects Etc.

This is just the beginning…
