Subject: Progress Report – Improving the Internship Course Placement Rate of University of Toronto Mississauga Commerce students

Purpose

The purpose of this report is to analyze the current hiring process for new tech hires at Article, and to provide recommendations for improvement.

Audience

MGT480 Course Director and Professional Development and Internships Coordinator from the Department of management of University of Toronto Mississauga

Significance of Report

The investigation and resulting recommendations will provide the following benefits:

  • Improve the placement rate of the internship course
  • Improve student support and mentorship for students before and during internship
  • Prepare commerce students at UTM for full time positions after graduation

Report Objectives

The report will explore:

  • The current marketing strategy of MGT480 in finding suitable employers
  • The challenges for matching more students with employers
  • Feasible solutions to improve the placement rate
  • The cost and effect of implementing the solutions

Methods

The research will be conducted through interviewing with the Course Coordinator as well as a survey to be completed by former MGT480 students

Research Plan

Here are the steps for determining the feasibility of improving the placement rate of the internship course

  • Interview with Megan Tamane for more insight on challenges to matching students with employers and recommendations for any improvement
  • Using survey to gather information from former MGT480 students for their experience and recommendations to improve the course
  • Design visuals from survey statistics
  • List suggestions for improving the placement rate based on primary and secondary research
  • Determine costs and effects of the solution

Writing Schedule

  • Oct 1 – Nov 7: Collecting Data using survey and schedule a interview with Megan Tamane (Course Coordinator)
  • Nov 7 – Nov 14: Drafting formal report 
  • Nov 15: Submitting Formal report draft 
  • Nov 16 — Nov 19: Peer review
  • Nov 19 — Nov 25: Revising formal report draft 
  • Nov 26: Submitting Formal report
